Weight Check

At Jackson's 9 month check-up he weighed 16 lbs 5 oz. He dropped completely off the chart. So we started adding rice cereal to his formula. We weren't too worried. Erica weighed the exact same at that age. I took him in at 10 months to see if he had gained any lbs. He weighed 16 lbs. 8oz. Our doctor ordered a blood test for his thyroid. It came back that he was normal for in the very high range. Meaning that he has a hyper thyroid. This makes it so you can't gain weight. They wanted us the go to Primary Children's Hospital to have him looked at by a specialist. I talked with our doctor and decided that we would check him again at 11 months to see if there was any improvement. That day was today. I could tell that he had gained some weight because is little cheeks are sagging now, but I didn't really know how much. We went in and weight him. Guess how much he weighed................

........... 18 lbs. 10 oz. Yeah for you Jackson. We don't have to go up north for now. Thank goodness.

  1. Yay for good news! We dealt with weight issues with both of our boys and did weekly weight checks with both of them when they were babies, but they never mentioned testing for thyroid issues. Is that something Jackson will eventually outgrow?

  2. How scary. That is interesting that he had hyperthyroidism. It is more likely to have thyroid problems with girls. Sounds like you have a good doctor. I have hypothyroidism. I got it with the miscarriage before Loralee which is probably one of the reasons I miscarried. Glad he is chubbing up:)
